Sandra Haeuplik-Meusburger is a researcher and practicing architect in habitability design solutions for compact and extreme environments. Since 2019 she is the academic director of the Science Academy in Lower Austria for which she developed the curriculum of a 2-year-interdisciplinary course on space research and technologies for adolescents. She has published several scientific papers and worked on aerospace design and research projects, as PI, collaborator, manager and initiator. She uses cross-program comparison and analysis of inhabited isolated, confined and extreme environments (ICEs) on Earth and Space from a human perspective as a basis for the systematic assessment of existing and future living and working environments in space. Sandra is a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and the author of the books Architecture for Astronauts – An Activity Based Approach (Springer, 2011), Space Architecture Education for Engineers and Architects – Designing and Planning Beyond Earth (Springer, 2016, co-author O. Bannova) and the upcoming book Space Habitats and Habitability (Springer, 2021, co-author Sheryl Bishop).
