Prof. Benaroya has focused his research in the disciplines of dynamics, vibration and probabilistic modeling. He has applied these to offshore structural dynamics, fluid-structure interactions, and lunar habitats. He is a graduate of The Cooper Union and The University of Pennsylvania, worked in consulting engineering for eight years before joining Rutgers University. He is an elected Member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
Prof. Benaroya is the author of numerous archival published papers on the conceptualization and design of lunar habitats, the study of competing concepts, and issues of the financing and economics of habitats. He is also the author of two relevant books: Turning Dust to Gold: Building a Future on the Moon and Mars (2010) and Building Habitats on the Moon: Engineering Approaches to Lunar Settlements (2018), both with Springer-Praxis. He has also spoken on these topics to numerous professional as well as academic audiences, including K-12 groups.
